Kicked off 2010 with a vacation

Fantastic long weekend in LA to visit Leah. Life is sweet there. Farmers Market for breakfast, a walk around The Grove, museums (Highly recommend the gift shop at the Craft and Folk Art Museum), Venice Beach, fancy cocktails and naps.

We had dinner with Bob & Heidi - so much fun. More great meals at Pizzeria Mozza and Bar Brix.

I didn't realize my seat home was in business class - HEAVEN. And Woody Harrelson was on my flight. In business class, just like me.

Nephew is 3 1/2 now and was just a pleasure over Xmas - We sleep in the same room at #5 and he putters around in the morning. So as I am waking up, I hear a little voice, talking to himself, playing with trucks, etc. When he realizes that I am awake, too, he usually hides under the covers and then we laugh.

When I registered my car (Rosalita) in NY, I wrote her color as fuschia. Then RMV woman told me to pick a "normal" color. I thought fuschia was a normal color. So then I wrote pink. My new mechanic says she is purple but I don't think he put a whole lot of thought into it.

I know that I am late to the cult, but I made my first trip to IKEA over the weekend. It was fabulous. I did get lost a couple of times in the store and had to ask directions. My new desk is almost perfect, which is the most I can hope for at $89. Although assembly was a bit tricky. I thought it was a joke, that thing about mistakes in the directions for self assembly stuff.

Book report: just finished The Master Butchers Singing Club by Louise Erdrich. Excellent. I don't always like her books, but this one I loved, stayed up late to finish it.

I live in Woodside, a neighborhood in Queens. I can hear the #7 elevated train from my bedroom, and like the clacking noise it makes. Also planes landing at LaGuardia Airport. Luckily the airport shuts down at night, I would not find the noise so romantic at 3am. First meal was at an Irish pub, Donovan's, which boasts the best burger. It was good, but... not as good as Casino El Camino in Austin or Tim's Tavern in Boston.
